5/1/2012--Ellen Edwards Burnham Simpsonville
Ellen Edwards Burnham, age 84, widow of Robert Adams Burnham, passed away on Saturday, April 28, 2012.  Born in Yancey County, North Carolina, she was a daughter of the late Wesley C. and Ora Ann Gibbs
Edwards. Mrs. Burnham was a graduate of Appalachian State University and Furman University and was retired from the Greenville County School System after 30 years as a teacher. She was a member of First Baptist
Church of Simpsonville where she taught Children's Sunday School for many years and was a member of the Annie Raine Circle.  Mrs. Burnham is survived by three daughters, Mary Ann McMakin and husband Steve, Elizabeth Lightbody and husband Doug, and Frieda Younts and husband David; a son, Robert A. "Bob" Burnham and wife Pam; a sister, Hope E. Johnson; eleven grandchildren; and four great grandchildren. She was
predeceased by a sister-in-law, Alfrieda Burnham.  Graveside services will be held on Thursday, May 3, 2012 at 2:00 pm at Cedardale Cemetery in Mullins, SC. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 2, 2012 from 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm at Cannon Funeral Home Fountain Inn, 1150 North Main St Fountain Inn.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Simpsonville First Baptist Church, 3 Hedge Street, Simpsonville, SC

5/3/2012--Alfred Carl Kvist Simpsonville
Alfred Carl Kvist passed away on Wednesday May 2, 2012. He was the husband of Deborah Moore Kvist and the son of the late Arvid Gustav Kvist and the late Christle Anderson Kvist.  Alfred served his country in the
United States Army, was self employed, and was of the Baptist Faith.  In addition to his wife he is survived by two daughters: Angie Welchel and husband Alan of Greer, Samantha Sophia Kvist of Simpsonville, two sons: Benjamin Carl Kvist and wife Shannon of NC., Daniel Jay Kvist of Greenville, one stepson: Robert Wesley Jacobson of Simpsonville, three grandchildren: Abbie, Anna and Alana Welchel of Greer.  A visitation will be held on Friday May 4, 2012 from 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm at Cannon Funeral Home Fountain Inn. The service will follow the visitation at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of Cannon Funeral Home Fountain Inn. Burial will follow the service in Cannon Memorial Park.

Ret. Col. Jimmie W. Verdin, age 78, of Gray Court passed away on May 1, 2012. He was born on December 6, 1933 in Mauldin, SC, to the late Lewis M. and Lottie Green Verdin. Jimmie is survived by his loving wife
Sylvia Verdin his sons Mitch (Terry) Verdin of Taylors, SC and Randy (Cathy) Verdin of Gray Court, SC, his grandchildren Anna (Jason) Maroney, Jeremiah (Rachel) Verdin, Daniel Verdin, Rebekah Verdin and Christopher Verdin.  He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.  A Graveside Service celebrating Jimmie's life will be held on Friday, May 5, 2012, 12:00pm at Cannon Memorial Park Cemetery in Fountain Inn.  In lieu of flowers the family wishes all memorial contributions to be made to the American Cancer Society, 154 Milestone Way, Ste A, Greenville, SC 29615 in Jimmie's memory

Ann Hopson Zucchi, age 58, of 42 North Charles Dr. in Conestee, SC devoted wife and mother passed away on Tuesday May 1, 2012 in her home. She was born on September 23, 1953 in Greenville, SC, to the late
Leonard and Francis Hopson.  Ann is survived by her loving husband Richard Zucchi, her daughter Tammy Mauldin and son Joseph Zucchi all of Greenville, also three brothers and two sisters all of Greenvillle and many nieces and nephews, and close friends.  She is the proud graduate of Victory Bible Institute and a proud recipient of the first annual Annie Zucchi award of excellence.  Family will receive friends on Thursday, May 3, 2012 from 1:00pm - 2:00pm at the Victory Chapel Baptist Church, 9 S. Carol Elizabeth Wilson, age 66, of Duncan, SC passed away suddenly on Wednesday May 2, 2012 in her home. She was born on June 11, 1945 in Spartanburg, SC, to the late Thomas Stewart, Sr. and Virginia Byers.
Carol was a loving devoted wife, mother and grandmother.  Carol is survived by her loving husband of 49 yrs Curtis E. Wilson, her daughters Cindy Bowling and her husband Richard of Duncan, SC and Denise Roof and her husband Ed of Duncan, SC. Her grandchildren Amber Wilson, Cortni Bowling and Michael Mayfield, her great granddaughter Jaylin Wilson, her sisters Lavada Nabors, Linda Machie, Joann Lovin and Sybil Clark. She is predeceased by her parents, brother Dr. Thomas Stewart Byers, Jr and her sister Sarah   Family will receive friends on Saturday, May 5, 2012 from 6:00pm - 8:00pm at Cannon Memorial Park Funerals & Cremations in Fountain Inn. 5/6/2012--Donald M. Murray Simpsonville
Donald M. Murray, age 82, husband of the late Phyllis N. Murray, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 3, 2012.  Born in Wheatland, Indiana, he was the youngest son of the late Murlin and Ruth Laverne
Schofield Murray. Mr. Murray served in the U.S. Navy and Navy Reserves at the Great Lakes Naval Station. He served as the Director of Distribution for the BF Goodrich Chemical Company in Cleveland, Ohio, later to become the Geon Company, and was President of the Lincoln and Southern Railroad. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Simpsonville, SC.  Mr. Murray is survived by two sons, Stephen Murray and wife Laurie and Brent Murray and wife Irma; a brother, Robert Murray; five grandchildren, Katie, Erin, Ashley, Stephen, and Adam; and a great grandson, Bennett.  Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 8, 2012 at 12:00 pm at Calvary Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Stan Rupe with burial in MJ "Dolly" Cooper Veterans Cemetery in Anderson, SC. Karen Denise Moldovan, age 49, wife of Jon Moldovan Sr., of 15 Coachwhip Court, passed from this life and was lifted on the wings of angels to meet our almighty God in heaven for eternity on Friday, May 4, 2012. 
Born in Charlotte, North Carolina, of Wilburn and Annette Hagans, she lived her life to its fullest as a loving, caring and devoted wife, mother of two beautiful children, and compassionate friend to many. Karen Moldovan was a proud assistant manager of the Fountain Inn SCDMV and was dedicated to her work in public service. All who were touched by her kindness and warm gentle heart will forever and deeply miss Karen.  Karen Denise Moldovan is survived by her husband, Jon Moldovan Sr.; a son, Jon Moldovan, Jr. and wife Kalen; a daughter, Megan Moldovan Leccese and husband Joseph; two brothers, Wilburn Hagans, Jr, Douglas Hagans; and sister, Mary Hagans Chapman.  Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 11, 2012 from 7:00 to 8:00 pm at Cannon Funeral Home, 1150 North Main Street, Fountain Inn, SC 29644. Norbert O. "Doc" Preston, age 97, widower of Dorothy Preston, passed away on Saturday, May 5, 2012.  Born in Cleveland, Ohio, he was a son of the late Georgia and Marie Petunya. He retired from Reynolds
Aluminum, was a member of St. Elizabeth Anne Seaton Catholic Church, and was in the Civilian Conservation Corps. He was extremely creative, loved nature, singing, and was an avid antique collector.  Mr. Preston is survived by four children, Sue Edwards and husband Charles, Mike Preston and wife Nancy, Margaret Roberts(husband Hoppy deceased), Mary Preston King and husband Dave; 15 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; a sister, Bernadine Toth. He was predeceased by two children, Kathy Petunya and Beth Turk(husband Tony); and his cat, Cali.  Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 11, 2012 at 10:00 am at Cannon Funeral Home, 1150 North Main Street, Fountain Inn, conducted by Rev. Terry Ferrell with burial in Cannon Memorial Park. 5/9/2012--James Bruce "Jim" Woods (1932 - 2012) Simpsonville
James "Jim" Bruce Woods, age 79, of Simpsonville passed away on May 6, 2012. He was born on December 25, 1932 in Elmira, NY, to the late Francis Timothy and Mildred Rank Woods. He served in the United States
Air Force during the Korean Conflict, and then had a 38 year career with NCR Corp. He enjoyed time spent with family and friends, hunting, woodworking and sailing.  He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years Gail Woods, his children, James Francis Woods and wife Juliann of Hollywood, MD, Tracy Marie Anderson and husband Bobby of Gastonia, NC and Steven Michael Woods and wife Cathy of Fountain Inn, SC. He was blessed with 5 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren.  He is survived by 1 brother and 3 sisters and was predeceased by his parents and 2 brothers.  A Funeral Mass celebrating Jim's life will be held on Friday, May 11, 2012, at 10:00 am at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church in Simpsonville, SC. 5/11/2012--Dorothy Elizabeth Hazel  Simpsonville
Dorothy Elizabeth Hazel of Simpsonville SC, went to be with the Lord on May 8, 2012 at Duke University Medical Center in Durham NC. She was predeceased by her daughter, Sheila McCall Ford. She is survived by
her three children, Susan McCall Greene, Karen McCall Schulz, and Kenneth McCall Jr. as well as her eight grandchildren, Michael Barbare, Wesley Alexander, Amanda Nixon, Jonathan Lane, Caleb Ford, Caroline Ford, Madison McCall, Ryan McCall, and eight great grandchildren.  Born in 1928 in Cramerton NC, mom grew up in the Greenville area, working on the family farm and starting a job in a local mill as soon as she could. She loved to square dance and enjoyed growing up on the farm. Mom was married in 1954 in Greenville SC to Kenneth McCall, in service with the United States Air Force at Donaldson AFB. The military took them to live in many places, which she always enjoyed as an adventure. Mom retired from Kemet Electronics in Simpsonville SC in 1993. We all remember that mom's greatest joy was raising us and she truly loved the Lord and strong in faith. Ethel Lorre Starkey Clark, age 80, widow of James Edward Clark, passed away on Sunday, May 13, 2012.  Born in Greenville, she was a daughter of the late Lowell Madison and Rose Davis Starkey. Melissa Ann Franks, 44, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 25, 2012.  Ms. Franks was born April 24, 1968 in Lexington. She worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant. She loved riding motorcycles, flowers
and enjoyed hunting and fishing. She was a collector of Harley Davidson memorabilia and porcelain dolls. Melissa found fulfillment in the Marine Corps Toys-4-Tots Charity rides.  Surviving are her father, Jim Franks and wife Angie; two brothers, Justin and Jimmy; her second family, Allen and Helen Bradford, and Keith and Mequita; other family, Lonnie, Jeff, Robin, Vonda, Deborah, and Jennifer; and her beloved dogs, Piglet and Harley.  A Celebration of Melissa's Life will be 6 p.m. Wednesday at Fletcher Funeral Service. 5/3/2012--Dr. Joe Allen Stewart Sr. (1924 - 2012) Fountain Inn
Joe Allen Stewart Sr., M.D., 87, husband of the late Louise Rome Stewart, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 28, 2012.  Dr. Stewart was born October 2, 1924 in Fountain Inn to the late William Franklin Stewart
Sr. and Lucy Allen Peden Stewart. He attended Clemson University on an agricultural scholarship and was drafted in the U.S. Army in 1943. He continued his education in the Army's medical training program at Texas A&M University and completed his undergraduate degree in pre-medicine at Stanford University. He completed his medical training at the University of Oklahoma Medical School and completed his residency at Baroness Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga, TN. Dr. Stewart was drafted into military service again in 1951, during the Korean conflict. He served in hospitals in the United States, Japan and Korea before being discharged as a Captain. Upon discharge from the Army, he returned to Fountain Inn to practice medicine at the Stewart-McLawhorn Clinic. In 1960, he relocated to Summerville, GA, where he practiced as a general physician until 1973. He then took a teaching position at the Floyd Medical Center Family Practice Program and served as director of the Floyd County Indigent Care Clinic in Rome, GA.  In 1990, Dr. Stewart returned to Summerville where he practiced medicine until retiring. Upon retirement, he moved home to engage in his life-long love of farming and raising beef cattle. He volunteered throughout the local communities and resided at the family farm for the remainder of his life.  Surviving are two sons and their wives, Frank "Skipper" and Brenda Stewart, and Dr. Greg and Patti Stewart; a daughter, Susan Stewart and husband Glenn Campbell; a brother, Bill Stewart Jr. and wife Pat; a sister, Lucy Stewart; seven grandchildren, Will Stewart and wife Dana, Daniel Stewart and wife Emily, Preston Joe Hayes, Loren Cantos and husband Dave, Adrian DeWolf and wife Sabrina, Joshua DeWolf and wife Suzy, and Jessica Griffin and husband Matt; and nine great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, Joe A. Stewart Jr.; a brother, Gene Stewart; and a sister, Frances Carter.  The family will receive friends at the old homesite (743 Stewart Road in Fountain Inn) from 5-8 p.m. Friday. Graveside services, with Military Honors, will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Harmony Church Cemetery, officiated by Rev. 5/4/2012--James Qualls (1942 - 2012)  Simpsonville
James Workman "J.W." Qualls, 70, husband of Sally Ann Smith Qualls, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 3, 2012.  Mr. Qualls was born March 2, 1942 in Ware Shoals to the late James Leonard Qualls and
Frances Lucille Burkett Qualls. He retired from Dow (Texize) Company. He was a member of Carpenter's Chapel Church and active in the church nursing home ministry. He played the guitar and sang and was a member of the Southern Sounds band. He enjoyed camping and fishing, and was a huge fan of wrestling entertainment and NASCAR. He collected Cowboy hats and Bolo ties.  Surviving, in addition to his wife, are five daughters, Jane Brooks, Pam Johnson, Tina Gentry and husband Chris, Dawn Hood and husband James, and Danielle Bates; a brother, Edward Qualls and wife Polly; two sisters, Joyce Hunt and Lidie Mae Hammond; a sister-in-law, Judy Qualls; twelve grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; and his beloved dogs, Sasha and Peanut. He was predeceased by two brothers, Roy Qualls and Sidney Qualls; two brothers-in-law, Bob Hunt and Monroe Hammond; and a grandson, Tony Hood.  Visitation will be 5:30-7 p.m. Friday at Fletcher Funeral Service.  Funeral services will be 4 p.m. Saturday at Carpenter's Chapel Church, officiated by Rev. Eleanor Montgomery "Tommye" Armstrong Wood, 90, widow of Colonel Roy I. Wood Jr., USMC Retired, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 2, 2012.  Mrs. Wood was born March 6, 1922 in Fountain Inn to
the late Charles Dial "C.D." Armstrong and Esther Louise Verdin Armstrong. She was proud of working for the FBI in Washington, D.C. and enjoyed gardening and interior decorating. She was a member of Dunwoody Methodist Church.  Surviving are a son, Roy Wood III; a daughter, Debbie Wood and husband Dan; three brothers and their wives, Rodney and Ann Armstrong, Verdin "Buddy" and Bobbie Jane Armstrong, and Wendall "Winky" and Jane Armstrong; two sisters, Esther Presher and Rachel Jacobs; two grandchildren, Caroline Hamburg and husband Billy Sr., and Wesley Bloomfield; and two great-grandchildren, Montgomery Cate Hamburg and Will Hamburg Jr. She was predeceased by two brothers, Don Armstrong and Charlie Armstrong; and three sisters, Dorothy Vela, Marge Chamberlain, and Louise Hodder.  Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Fairview Presbyterian Church Cemetery, officiated by Rev. Ethel Ruth Pope Cooper, 83, widow of James Harvey Cooper, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 3, 2012.  Mrs. Cooper was born August 22, 1928 in Nutley, New Jersey. She retired as a police officer with the
Wall Township Police Dept.  Surviving is a son, Jim Cooper and wife Laurie; a daughter, Judy Smith and husband Mike Paxton; and a grandson, Kevin Cooper.  Services will be held in New Jersey.

Reed Cox was born September 7, 1971 in Durham, N.C. to Mrs. Barbara Jones Cox and the late Roger Stanley Cox.  Surviving in addition to his mother is a brother: Rod Cox and wife April; numerous aunts, uncles and

5/10/2012--Jane Dickerson (1946 - 2012) Berea
Jane Ellen Richardson Dickerson, 66, wife of Ray M. Dickerson Sr., went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 8, 2012.  Mrs. Dickerson was born April 3, 1946 in Greenville, to the late Graves Wilson Richardson and Joyce Olene Willis Richardson. She was a cosmetologist and worked many years as a counselor at Graceland East Cemetery. She loved to cook, loved her family, and loved flowers. She was raised in Fountain Inn, attending Fountain Inn First Baptist Church and graduating from Hillcrest High School. She was Miss Simpsonville.  Surviving, in addition to her husband, are a son, Richard Chambers; a sister, Susanna Whiten and husband Billy; and a granddaughter, Sara Lee.  Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Fletcher Funeral Service, followed by burial in the Fountain Inn City Cemetery. 5/10/2012--Lou Ellen Reece Griffin (1927 - 2012) Simpsonville
Lou Ellen Reece Griffin, 85, widow of Bobby Richard Griffin Sr., went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 8, 2012.  Mrs. Griffin was born March 4, 1927 in Six Mile, to the late Grady Newton Reece and Lillie Mae Nix Griffin. She retired from Union Carbide and was a member of Simpsonville United Methodist Church. She enjoyed riding through the mountains and sitting on the porch watching the cars pass by.  Surviving are a son, Bobby "Ricky" Griffin Jr. and wife Donna; three daughters, Judy Moore, Jean Pace and husband Charles, and Robbie Boyd and husband Mike; three brothers and their wives, Harold and Mickie Reece, Cleon and Anne Reece, and Leon and Iris Reece; a sister, Eula Belle Scarborough and husband Ray; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by three brothers, Garland Reece, Carl Reece and Norman Reece; a sister, Sula Mae Brannon; and a son-in-law, Wayne Moore.  Funeral services will be 4 p.m. Friday in the mausoleum chapel of Greenville Memorial Gardens, officiated by Rev. Ruby Virginia Holcombe Chastine, 94, widow of Alfred Broadus Chastine, went to be with the Lord on Thursday May 10, 2012.  Mrs. Chastine was born February 28, 1918 in Simpsonville to the late Addie Jane Godfrey
Holcombe and James Albert Holcombe. She retired after forty-seven years of service with Carolina Blouse Company. She was a lifelong member of Rocky Creek Baptist Church, where she attended the T.E.L Sunday school class and the senior adult group, Forever Young. She enjoyed attending Clear Spring Baptist Church on Sunday evenings with her grandson. She enjoyed baking pound cakes, and traveling. Her favorite destination was a trip to the Alamo.  Surviving is a son, Jimmy Chastine and wife Kathy; a brother, Lawrence Holcombe; two sisters Margaret Henderson and Elise Wilson; and two grandchildren Denny Chastine, and Kevin Chastine and his wife Kristy. She was predeceased by three brothers, James, Russell, and Jackie Holcombe; two sisters Zelphia Grubbs and Barbara Bingham.  Funeral Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Fletcher Funeral Service, followed by burial at Greenville Memorial Gardens. 5/15/2012--John Holliday (1927 - 2012)  Cross Hill
John Edward "PaPa Bo" Holliday, 84, husband of Ruth Elizabeth Crawford Holliday for 63 years, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 13, 2012.  Mr. Holliday was born August 16, 1927 in Greenwood to the late Fred Dee Holliday and Ella Clayton Blaine Holliday. He was WWII veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in the Phillipine Islands. He retired from Life of Georgia Insurance Company and was certified as a LUTC. He served as an agent and sales manager, and later worked for Napa Auto Parts. He played in the county baseball leagues and the Western Carolina Textile league. He was a member of Cross Hill First Baptist Church and the Young at Heart group, where he served as a church trustee and deacon.  Surviving, in addition to his wife, are two daughters and their husbands, Debbie and Don Chastain, and Jill and Ronnie Sprouse; a sister, Pat Grimes; five grandchildren, Brian Sprouse and wife Becca, Kevin Chastain and wife Paige, Amanda Riddle, Darla Bryant and husband Ernie, and Bonnie Humphries and husband Charlie; and twelve great-grandchildren.  Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Cross Hill First Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. Curtis Marshall and Rev. Howard Suttles. Burial, with Military Honors, will be in Greenville Memorial Gardens. 5/15/2012--Ron Nalley (1960 - 2012)  Simpsonville
Ronald Allen Nalley, 51, son of Willis Marvin Nalley and Joyce Allen Nalley, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 13, 2012.  Mr. Nalley was born June 3, 1960 in Anderson. He was a graduate of Alliance Truck Driving School and was a long-haul driver for Carolina Recycling and CRG Contractors, known by his C.B. handle Dough-Boy. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and a member of Simpsonville First Baptist Church. Ron enjoyed golf, fishing, and riding motorcycles. He was an avid Clemson fan. Suviving, in addition to his parents, is a brother, Robert Nalley. He was predeceased by a brother, Randy Nalley.  Funeral services will be will 2 p.m. Wednesday at Fletcher Funeral Service, officiated by Rev. Randy Harling. Inurnment will be in the columbarium at Graceland East Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home for one hour prior to the service.
